Why are background colours or borders not printing out?
To fix the boxing problem you need to enable background images. In Internet Explorer 7 go to:
Tools > Internet options > Advanced > Printing > and select "Print background colours and images".
Earlier versions of internet explorer will be similar to this.

Outlook:
Tools > E-mail Accounts > View or change existing e-mail accounts
Select the email account > Change (or double click it)
More Settings... > Advanced > Delivery > Leave a copy of messages on the server (or select the options as you wish)
Outlook Express:
Tools > Accounts > Mail > Select account properties > Advanced > Delivery > Leave a copy of messages on the server (or select the options as you wish)
